Centre riggers (often described as the "shotgun rigger") are designed to get a bait or lure way out the back of the boat and well clear of anything else in the "spread" All predators are hard wired to conserve energy at all costs and so it is often the case that the bait or lure trailing way out the back behind everything esle is the one that becomes the "easy target" When trolling, the centre rigger is essential in maximising the impact of the bait/lure in the key "shotgun position"
